Northern Territory: Free Plants, Rebates and Garden Freebies

Who: Darwin residents, with proof of residency.

When: Dry season events from 8am to 11am. The 2026 program runs five events from July, with the last one on Saturday 17 October 2026 at The Esplanade.

How: Turn up early, as plants go while stocks last. More than 2,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses suited to Darwin's tropical climate are offered at each event, and the program hands out over 15,000 plants a year.

Who: Darwin residents, schools, community groups and businesses.

How: Join with the online sign-up form on the program page. Members get an initial garden visit, a starter pack with a fence sign, a habitat booklet and a voucher for six native plants, plus newsletters and invitations to talks and workshops.

Who: Darwin residents with proof of residency.

How: Buy a compost bin, worm farm (including first worms) or bokashi system (including first bokashi additives) from any NT supplier. Submit the online form with your receipt and proof of Darwin residency. Purchases under $100 are fully reimbursed. Purchases over $100 are capped at the $100 rebate.

Who: Community groups within the Darwin municipality. Garden and sustainability projects are eligible.
