Free Trees and Plants
Free PlantsWho: Residents and tenants in the City of Stirling (tenants need the owner's approval).
How: Part of the Living Green program. The 2026 round has finished, with almost 3,000 households receiving more than 36,000 trees and plants. Registrations for 2027 open in mid-March 2027; sign up to the Living Green newsletter to hear first.

Native Plant Giveaway
Free PlantsWho: Homeowners and occupiers within the City of Joondalup.
How: Submit an expression of interest on the council page while it is open (3 to 17 March in 2026). Preference goes to new participants, and successful applicants are emailed collection details, which can take up to eight weeks.

Native Plant Subsidy
Free PlantsWho: Cockburn residents and schools.
How: Subsidised native seedlings in forestry tubes are sold through Apace nursery from 1 May each year. One subsidy per household while stocks last; bring proof of your address and photo ID.

RebateWho: Cockburn residents.
How: Check the Home Compost Subsidies page for the current offers and how to claim. Worm farm buyers attend a short set-up workshop.

ServiceWho: Cockburn residents.
How: Collect a free kitchen compost caddy from the City's Administration Building, one per household. Use it to carry food scraps to your compost bin or worm farm.

Free Garden Mulch
ServiceWho: Residents of WMRC member councils (includes parts of the western Perth metro area).
How: Check the WMRC website for collection locations and any quantity limits. Mulch is produced from green waste and available throughout the year.

WA Government Treebate
RebateWho: Any WA resident aged 18 or over, including people who claimed in year one.
How: Buy up to five native trees on a single itemised tax invoice, plant them, then claim through the ServiceWA app with the invoice and a photo of the plant labels. Year two of Treebate is open, with another 10,000 rebates available.

RebateWho: Water Corporation customers in eligible South West and Great Southern towns.
How: Buy and install a tank of 2,000 litres or more, plumbed into your toilet or washing machine, then apply to Water Corporation. The current offer opened on 1 June 2026 and runs until program funds run out.

ProgramWho: Community organisations and local governments across Western Australia.
How: Apply in the State Government's annual round, run by the Department of Communities. Funding covers items from plants, seedlings and fertiliser to planning, design and training. The 2025 to 2026 round closed on 28 November 2025.
