Adelaide and Perth share a hot-dry Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa/Csb) with extreme December to February heat (30 to 40°C) and low rainfall. Cool-season vegetables (lettuce, spinach, brassicas, peas) bolt and turn bitter in summer heat, so shift sowing to March to August. Warm-season fruiting crops (tomato, capsicum, chilli, basil, cucumber) must establish before summer heat arrives via earlier spring sowing (Aug to Oct).
